We were given a large scale portrait cut up into a series of A4 sheets. Having put them into place we still did not know who she was but were told to start on our work. What we decided to do is paint the background a dark shade of green, create her hair in different mediums and use our skills in using tonal value to paint a monochromatic face and body. Our goal in the beginning was to create a contrasting and appealing effect, something that would catch people's eye but still show how we can work with different shades and details on the skin and clothing. To further develop our work, we have now interpreted the different colors and materials in her hair to represent her boldness and strength as a woman, and as a feminist. This works out well as hair is a trait stereotypically attributed to woman as feminine, so our artwork will depict her femininity as something that will not and cannot be contained. To link back to her goal of creating a healthy place for females in video games we have decided on turning the background into an intricate pattern resembling a microchip or a computers hardware/motherboard, which can also symbolize her goal of wanting to create a foundation for female role models in video games. Though unfinished, I have created my squares in these particular ways for the greatest possible variety.
